Bobrovec is one of the oldest villages in the Liptovsky Mikulas district of the Zilina region of northern Slovakia.

The village traces in its roots back to the 9th century, when villages were named according to trees, flowers or animals. The name Bobrovec comes from the word "bobor," which means "beaver," which abundantly lived in this area near the river Jalovcianka.

The existence of the village of Bobrovec was recorded for the first time in historical documents dating from the year 1231. According to these documents it became a royal town with standard powers for the era, such as the right to elect a mayor. The village was granted the right to organize and maintain a local market, but it also had to pay taxes to the king, and keep a residence available for the king any time he visited the town.
